ID CULTURE
Guards on the loose! The ID is probably the most important accessory of an Atenean. Kapag nakaiwan ka nito sa bahay niyo, umuwi ka ulit sa inyo. Although there's always the thirty-peso temporary ID from ADSA, it's the only way to pass through those guards chasing ID-less Ateneans.
No ID, no library access. You can't get in. It's a key, a digital gatepass. Make sure it's really yours for a picture of the owner displays on the guard's monitor once the ID barcode is swiped. Obviously, you also won't be able to borrow books. Once again, the magical barcode plays a special role here again, for the librarian to be able to register your ID number in the database.
Guhit. If you need to draw a straight line, the ID is always there for you. Not unless you draw a line as straight as our drafting professor does.
Where do we usually wear it? Wear it around your neck with an ID strap, wear it around your arms, pin it anywhere (as long as the guard is able to see it)!
Ultimate Name Tag. The main purpose. Is the person you're talking to is too deaf to hear your name? Is the person suffering from selective amnesia or short-term memory loss? Signing-up for something? Asking for a service in different offices? Your name is always needed, and you want it to be known right, right?
Bench Culture
Conyo Bench. It's the bench in front of the College Cafeteria @ Gonzaga Hall. The most famous of all. The all-time favorite bench of the conio people, those rich brats who speak Taglish as if there's no tomorrow. Agh. Long time ago, they say that a batch does not allow anyone to sit there but them, or else --- it's over for the unlucky person. It was gone but then, another group seemed to have been emerged, some people sit here again frequently claiming the place as their own "tambayan." [But still, the current group is not like the original "daw" because many still sit in that place by chance.]
Doll House. Alongside Rizal Library-Annex, and the RSF. Second to the most famous, it's the bench of the divas. The gay people. It's probably the noisiest bench of all benches in Ateneo. Too bad for those occupying K-201.
Dog House. The shaded bench in the not-so-middle of Zen Garden.
Cat House. The shaded bench in the entrance of College Lane. This is usually the place for sundo-waiting-place, where people wait for their drivers to fetch them.
SEC B & SEC C Foyers. The bench for unaccredited orgs. The Blue Babble Battallions occupy SEC B.
Cram Culture, an Atenean's expertise
Always online. Well, for those internet junkies, not getting online seems to be a big no-no even during study time. They'd just put that busy sign note on their messengers.
Y! Conference. Group meeting for a task to be submitted tomorrow or some deadline getting near? Can't meet the group? Meeting postponed? No available time to meet? Meeting with the group is too noisy? The Yahoo! Conference is always the answer. YM na lang. The famous Atenean tagline when it comes to these things. Most of the group tasks are done in YM. Trust me, it has worked for most.
The Long To-Do List. As long as there's time, there's always tomorrow. That's why these to-do lists get as long as Nile.
Gadget Freaks. Most Ateneans are undisturbable during study time, thanks to the ultimate iPod. It keeps them out from the real world in a short time, meaning you can't disturb them. "Do not disturb," the hidden meaning of ears plugged with iPod headsets/earphones. Papers due in few hours? The portable laptop is always there to aid you in cramming. Don't worry, things will pop into mind once you know it's being crammed. There's always the computer laboratories for printing services.
Don't have laptops? Computer Laboratories. From CTC Computer Laboratories to RSF and Rizal Library computers, pick your choice. They also offer printing services for everybody in reasonable? prices.
Five Exams in a Day. There's always those teachers... na kahit pakiusapan mo sa dami ng exam, ipipilit pa rin na ayaw niyang mas espesiyal ang ibang subject kaysa sa subject niya.
Sardine Can-Like Coffee Shops. And final examinations week has arrived, everybody searches for a quiet place, which will not make you sleep with whatever you are studying. Nothing but the coffee shop. Nobody could ever get a place easier in these places during hell weeks, most especially final exams week. Either it be on the two branches of Starbucks Coffee in Katipunan, Seattle's Best Coffee, or Bo's Coffee.
Lib. A cold, very cold, really cold place that's quiet and possesses a sleepy aura inviting you to sleep amidst those books in front of you. The ultimate sleeping place for Ateneans. It's full during hell week. The perfect alternative for those people who unluckily found a place in coffee shops and for those on-a-budget to study in a coffee shop.
Hell Week. Everybody knows this. Duuuh...
Hell Day. The jam-packed and the most adventurous version of Hell Week. Well, this day usually involves gallons of caffeine and lots of printer inks, thick readings, a number of exams, and the like.
There's a lot more. These are some of those that I learned during my past few semesters.
