Review: Breaking Dawn / Stephenie Meyer

At last, after 5 days of reading the whole of the Twilight saga including a few chapters of Midnight Sun, I finished reading the series. I was stunned, of course, by the pace of reading I had while reading the series...it took me less than a week to read an entire 4-book (+ a part) SERIES.

Half a day for Twilight and Midnight Sun.. a day each for New Moon and Eclipse... and 2 days for Breaking Dawn.

As what Meyer said, Twilight saga is sort of Bella-centric. Everything is all about Bella and the love of her life...Edward.

THE COVER:
I loved chess. I have been playing it ever since kindergarten. The idea here, as explained by the author, is the representation of Bella before and after she became a vampire.

BEFORE -- she was the weakest piece... as the book continues to an end, pawns eventually turn into Queens, or what we know in chess as QUEENING.

AFTER -- Bella as a vampire, invulnerable... a shield. She became a stronger person than before. The white queen is obviously the strongest piece existing on a chessboard as Bella was in her own chessboard.

Breaking Dawn was divided into three books. The first and the last was written in Bella's POV while the middle part was written in Jacob's point of view.

Book one deals with Bella and Edward's marriage, and the beginning of a new life...for they discovered that Bella is bearing a child, though they don't know what danger it can bring, Bella's decision regarding this matter -- that she would let the child live -- is where the whole novel revolves.

Book two, on Jacob's point of view, describes the struggles of Bella and her pregnancy... counting the days of Bella's mortal life, unsure of the time when she would turn into a vampire. Jacob pursues his being an Alpha of their wolf pack... and in the later parts, would be closer with Edward as time passed.

Book three is probably the most moving part of the novel. Aside from the thrill and action it brings, it is also one of the most melodramatic parts of the whole sagaving such a child which is obviously not the case because Renesmee is harmless, in faca. It tells the story of Renesmee, the half-human half-vampire daughter of Bella and Edward. It was when Irina, a vampire friend of theirs holding a grudge against the wolves especially to Jacob, thought that Renesmee is an immortal child, posing danger to their world and the humans mostly. At this thought, she went to the Volturi to punish the Cullen family for ht.

The development from the three books eventually turns into a mixture of power, justice, family, friendship, and love... With the help of friends willing to witness for Renesmee's harmlessness as a vampire hybrid, they eventually gained a 'happily ever after' as the Volturi cleared them of all the false allegations made by Irina (who got burned).


Long as it is, Breaking Dawn is a must-read for those who started and will start reading the saga just like how the seventh and final installment to Rowling's Harry Potter. Although I think this book is not yet the last, as the author just mentioned that this is the LAST to be told in the POV of Bella.

5 stars for Breaking Dawn.
